People wonder how I’m going to have 8 books out by the end of 2012.

They think I spend all my time writing. I don’t.

It’s easy I tell them. Write for One Hour Per Day. Every writer can do 700-1000 words per hour. A novel is anywhere from 40,000 - 70,000 words. That’s 40 to 70 days to write a book. At One Hour Per Day. A little over 2 months at One Hour Per Day.

People always say they want to write a book but don’t have time. I disagree so I’ve created the hashtag #OneHourPerDay. To identify all the things that you can do instead of writing your book.

Here’s the first one:

…When you compare it to writing a graphic novel. 

At RemindBlog, Jason Brubaker mentions that if it takes a GN creator 10 hours from start to finish to create a page of his GN and he works on that GN every night for 2 hours per night (sidebar: If you are creatively inclined you BETTER be able to work on your craft for a measly 2 hours per night) in one year he’ll have 56 pages. Which is about enough for one, slim, but whole, graphic novel. 

If a novelist is able to write 1,000 words per hour (it’s not that hard) and writes for 1 hour every night (sidebar: ONE HOUR! ONLY ONE HOUR! You could practically do that on the toilet) that’s 365,000 words in a year, which is enough for 4 (FOUR!) full length novels of about 90,000 words each. OR 6 - 8 novels between 40,000 and 90,000 words each. YES 6-8 novels per year working for ONE LOUSY HOUR PER DAY! 

if you are an aspiring writer I NEVER WANT TO HEAR YOU SAY YOU DON’T HAVE TIME TO WRITE.
